30 Day Anime Challenge: Day 3

This has gotta be a record for me posting, surely. I’m impressed! But not nearly as impressed as I’ll be if I can come up with a solid answer for today’s question, because whilst it’s made for me, it’s definitely going to be tough.

Now, this question is a little difficult for two reasons. The first being that I’ve already talked about my favourite male character a lot (it’s Leorio from Hunter x Hunter), so I don’t want to sound like a broken record. The other reason is that a lot of the anime I watch has predominantly male casts, therefore there are just…SO. MANY. BOYS. to choose from. This video is essentially me.

According to my friend, this is exactly how I spoke when we were watching Boku no Hero Academia.

So, when it comes to male characters, it can be tough. Therefore, I’m cheating a little and I’m talking about one of my favourite boys…video related. Yes, today I will be talking about Mr. Icy Hot, Todoroki Shouto from Boku no Hero Academia.

That’s a good, soft!boy right there.

Oh, Todoroki. Like everyone else, I’ve been obsessed with Boku no Hero Academia. Asides from the amazing, exciting world it introduced, the cast is to die for, with a character to appeal to everyone. As for me, well. Despite the great selection, I became enamored with Todoroki.

Honestly, at first glance, I had a sneaky suspicion he could be my favourite; though this was because of the white hair. There are very few white haired anime boys I can resist, I can’t help it! However, with everything, looks can only do so much. If there isn’t any substance behind that white hair, what is there to enjoy? Luckily for me, Shoto is one of , if not the most layered character in the Boku no Hero Academia series so far.

Todoroki is very much the ‘tragic backstory but with a good heart’ trope of Shounen. He had an awful upbringing – his father was the worst kind of human being, and Todoroki was essentially raised to be nothing more than a tool, not even a human.

He could’ve very easily become a villain, and yet there he in Class 1-A’s hero course. He’s fought against everything that he was supposed to be in order to be everything that he SHOULD be, and the result of this is the sweetheart we see before us.

Not only that, but I also adore the way that whilst Todoroki initially started off as somewhat of an outsider, whether due to his background, or the fact he’s generally an introvert, we now see him with friends. Actual friends, for the first time in his life. And darn it, you bet Todoroki is going to be the best friend he can be, even if it’s all a little new to him and he doesn’t quite understand how to interact yet.

That’s an awkward boy…he tries.

But, and dare I make a pun, Todoroki’s coolest aspect is of course his quirk. Whilst the other characters have pretty awesome quirks, Todoroki takes it that one step further with TWO powerful quirks. He can flame up one side, and freeze on the other side. Can you imagine how great he’d be on troublesome weather days? You’d never sweat, nor shiver again. In all seriousness, though, Todoroki’s powers are badass, and what’s even crazier is that we (anime watchers) haven’t even seen the full extent of his power yet. Sure, Deku is going to be the #1 hero, but Todoroki is definitely hot (ha) on his heels.

*Outkast voice* What’s cooler than being cool? Not Shoto, apparently.

So there you have it! As I mentioned at the beginning, Leorio is actually my #1, but after two days of talking about Hunter x Hunter, it felt great to talk about someone different?

Who is your favourite male character? Or perhaps you have a favourite Boku no Boy too? Let me know in the comments!

Until next time!
